About the role
The National Disaster Management Officer will support humanitarian coordination, disaster preparedness and emergency response in Cuba. Reporting to the Head of the Coordination Unit, the incumbent works under the Head of Office of OCHA Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean.
Key responsibilities
- Monitor and analyse the evolving humanitarian situation, organise and facilitate coordination meetings and workgroups with UN agencies, NGOs and national authorities.
- Produce information products, maintain databases on humanitarian actors, and support monitoring and reporting mechanisms.
- Prepare advocacy materials, briefing notes and context analyses to inform donors, partners and government counterparts.
- Assist in the preparation of flash appeals and other emergency financing documents.
Required profile
- Master’s degree in political/social science, law, international studies, management or related field (or a first‑level degree with at least two years relevant experience).
- Experience in humanitarian coordination, emergency preparedness, crisis relief or related sectors is desirable, especially familiarity with Cuban coordination structures.
- Strong analytical, communication and teamwork competencies, with ability to work under pressure and incorporate gender perspectives.
